Presented by Duncan Hinton (Weatherfords) and Brett Larkin (GeoCheck)
Designed for geologists, geotechnical professionals and technical staff, this short course provides a clear, practical introduction to downhole geophysical logging in the coal industry and how to apply logging data with confidence.
What you’ll learn
- What downhole logging is, why it is used, and where it adds value.
- Key logging measurements including gamma, calliper, density, sonic, resistivity, gyro, verticality and temperature.
- Use of geotechnical tools such as dip-meter, acoustic scanner and full waveform sonic.
- Common log data formats including LAS, DPK and TIFF.
- Practical approaches to log quality control, documentation and issue identification.
- How to understand, review and apply logging data using software and field examples.
Why attend?
- Morning theory session covering logging fundamentals, measurements, tools, data and quality control.
- Afternoon practical session introducing the logging unit, site access and safety, data capture, software and real-world application.
- Practical tips for interpreting and correlating downhole geophysical data.
